Welcome, Davis Allen, From Your Aunt Angela
I've heard it said that there's no such thing as a pretty baby. The naysayers who utter this phrase like to say that babies come out all wrinkly, covered in disgusting white ooze, and looking not unlike a lizard.
I want to go on record to say that I have yet to meet a truly ugly baby. Now, don't start sending me pictures of ugly babies to try to prove me wrong. I will still find something beautiful about the little angel, even if it's just the innocent gleam in his or her eye.
I happen to think all babies are beautiful. That being said, I do have my favorites, starting with my own two cherubs and extending to my sister's two beautiful specimens, my cousin's daughter Paige, and a handful of other family notables. The latest installment in my love affair with babies is my new nephew, Davis Allen, born January 2nd to my brother, Brad and his lovely wife, Amber.
I've been awaiting the arrival of this little one for some time, in large part because I remember the day his father was born. I was a few weeks shy of nine years old when my parents brought Bradley home from the hospital.
My sister and I thought he was just gorgeous. Because he was a boy, he was quite the new-fangled novelty, and not just because he had different "equipment" than we did. Brad brought humor, a zest for life, and all-out fun to our household. His big brown eyes and mischievous smile were enough to melt even the coldest of hearts. He was our own little "Mr. Personality."
The fact that Brad survived to adulthood is, in and of itself, a miracle, particularly since he tried to "off" himself several times, usually while in my care and custody. All of the drama aside, I have grown to love and appreciate Brad for the little boy he was and the grown man he has become. I've learned a lot about life from Brad.
So when I first saw my nephew, all swaddled up in a blanket and just back from his circumcision, I fell in love. Of course, I immediately saw Brad in him. He was all warm and snuggly, tiny and sweet. I held him for 20 blissful minutes, until his grandpa came in and I felt like the biggest baby-hog in the world. There will be other opportunities to love this little one, of that I am certain.
Welcome to the world and to our family, Davis. Your Aunt Angela loves you!
